Project Summary

This project investigates the lateral performance of full-scale cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) shafts. Several shafts of varying diameter, head condition, and group configuration will be tested. The shaft instrumentation, installed externally and internally, captures shaft deformations that are induced by external lateral loads applied at the surface. Data from these deformation measurements are used to validate discrete element models (p-y springs) as well as continuum models (finite element).
